Hey guys. So I much like many others love what the devs are doing with Halo Online but for me the game just doesnt cut it. Im just as excited for the next update as much as anyone else but I have another option for you guys that some of you might enjoy.

Halo 2! Right now Halo 2 is still fully functional and has a few people active but we can make it far more active. The advantages that this has over H:O is a full map list, fully functional customs, and it requires no outside programs to connect to other users. Thats right you can setup custom games straight from the game! Its also classic H2 in 60 FPS! Now im sure some of you might be thinking 'ok thats fine and all but how do I get it up and running?' Well thanks YoshinJaa over on at teambeyond theres a full guide. I have set up H2 on W8.1 and W10 and it has worked without issues on both.

Below I will only include the installation and activation bits of the guide. If you have issues go to the actual teambeyond thread to check the faq page to see if there is a fix for any issues you experience. One I will provide some insight on is this:

• This is especially for those who have used an alternate installation guide or 'crack' previously as well H2 Shark's Activate function, but may also affect players with a purchased key. As of Oct. 7th, H2 Shark now has the 'PCID Changer' in Settings. Open H2 Shark and go to Settings, and then click on Reset PCID.

This is no longer called 'Reset PCID in the H2Shark Launcher'. To fix this hit the deactivate button and activate again.

Please follow these steps in order and carefully read everything! This process is not difficult and should only take about 15-20 minutes after downloading all of the files.

NOTE: The H2 Shark Tutorial video below also includes steps on how to install if you would rather watch a vid.

Download these links before beginning step 1 of this guide. The ISOs are clean untouched versions.

1. Download either the ISO and DaemonTools if you plan to use the ISO, or uTorrent or a similar Torrent client if you want to use the torrent download. Afterwards, download WinRAR, .NET Framework 4.5.2, and Games for Windows Live Client if you do not have it installed already. Make sure to install all programs before proceeding. You do not need to sign into Games for Windows Live client after installing, just close it.

2. If you are using the torrent version, click 'Get This Torrent' from the torrent link. Most web browsers will launch the torrent program automatically and will ask where to save to and then begin downloading as long as a torrent program is already installed.

3. Once you have finished downloading (usually should see 'seeding' or download complete), locate 'HALO 2.rar' and right-click on the file and select 'Extract to HALO 2' or mount the H2 iso using the default windows tool or daemon tools.

4. Go inside the HALO 2 folder and double-click startup

5. Select Customize Game Install, afterwards, Full Install, Do Not Start and click Continue

6. Once it asks you to activate simply choose Activate Later.

Theres two ways to activate the game. Both are explained below but I would like to point out that the registration part of H2Shark is only necessary if you want to run the game through the H2Shark Launcher. It was used as a way to have community tracked ranked servers but they have died out.

• How to Activate Halo 2 Vista

Select either the purchased key method or H2 Shark Activator method in order to activate your game's copy for online play. Either activation methods must occur after signing into Live in-game.

Using H2 Shark

This section explains what H2 Shark is and what features it is capable of doing. H2 Shark is a 'client' program that runs Halo 2 for you instead of running the game like normal (using a game shortcut or searching and playing). You can get the client patch here: http://h2pc.org/update. Here are some other tidbits of H2 Shark:

• H2 Shark (known as H2Launcher) can start Halo 2 for you and is recommended for use if you would like to receive the features (like Xbox FoV) and advanced video settings.

• When using H2 Shark to register an H2PC account, this account is linked to your Windows Live ID (the same thing that is used to sign into Live) and only requires the gamertag's email in order to authenticate itself. Passwords created when registering does not have to be the same password used for your Windows Live ID and is strongly recommended to not be the same. Your password is encrypted on our end, so we are unable to see the password created when registering your gamertag. Your H2PC account is completely separate from the forum accounts if you choose to register an account at http://h2pc.org

• H2 Shark has an auto-updater function, so when a new patch arrives, it will download it and apply it automatically.

Activating Your Game using H2 Shark's Activator Feature

1. Once you have finished installing the game at step 6 of the installation guide, open up H2Launcher.exe (http://h2pc.org/update)

2. Click on Activate. H2 Shark will automatically download the latest game update first, then the game will open up in windowed mode

3. Sign into your Live account, once you have signed in, you will likely receive a 'product key exceeded' error message. Select Try Again.

4. Go to the opened H2 Shark window. Copy the entire product key. Backspace the key that is being shown in game. Then use Ctrl+V to paste in the key from H2 Shark. Press Submit.

5. Activation is now complete. If you use this method, you may have to 'activate' again in the future, just restart from step 2, onward.

I forgot to mention how to setup a custom game.

You simply need to go to live>create game. Easy as that. I should also point out that some of the servers show up with a gold locked icon which you might think it means its a private lobby (I know i did) in reality thats the icon for custom games and the lobbies with the other icons are dedicated servers I believe.
