  • Sure!
I played it only once (Meaning a few sessions). I forget the rules, but I still play Warhammer to this day and know the setting fairly well. I'm also an avid Roleplayer, though usually in settings such as World of Darkness.
Count me in if this happens

I always thought GW kinda undersold the roleplaying game. Probably because you didn't have to buy as many miniature for it. It sure seems like it would be interesting to play in this setting and meet some of the iconic character (and probably get eaten/smashed by them).
I've never actually read the rules. I wonder how it compares to d&d 3.5, pathfinder, and now 5e.
Though, now that I think about it, warhammer would be a great candidate for conversion into 5e.

There is actually a reason for this! After the first edition (which was released in 1985 by whatever the GW owned publisher was called at that time.) they passed the licence onto independent publishers. In the case of second edition it was a Canadian company called Green Ronin. In the case of the short lived and overly complicated third edition it was passed onto Fantasy Flight Games. So my thought process behind them not really advertising it and talking about it, is down to the fact they didn't have anything to do with the creation of the game.
But yes, you're right, its incredibly interesting when an Ork's choppa in-beds its self into your beloved character's face.

Never been a huge fan of the d20 rule set. The Warhammer RPG's all follow a d100 rule set that I find much clearer and easier to properly way up situations
  • No idea about it, never read the book, but I'm very interested in it in theory.

I can't stand D&D either, but you mentioned a 3rd edition. Why do you not play this one? FFG usually does good stuff too!

I would normally agree with you whole wholeheartedly there @krunsh . I am a huge fan of FFG's games. But with 3rd ed they really dropped the ball. To help prevent the rise in people illegally downloading rule books off the internet they made it so you had to use special dice, tokens and cards, the rule book was chopped up into four different books and the actual rules themselves made it very difficult to play without these props. FFG then sold all of this in a large starter kit which cost a whooping £100. As it turns out this idea hugely backfired and the game died out rather quickly. On a whole within the roleplaying community 2nd ed is widely known to the peak of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay .
Don't know whether anyone can tell but I am loving talking about all this Warhammer Roleplay history!

Damn! Well when I played it there were no such props, so I supposed it was 2nd edition. What kind of story would you be telling? I remember trying to play the most forgettable empire swordman (Not as in boring, but as in un-exceptional, at least in martial feats.).
My sword & shield fighting style quickly became Sword & Missing arm after fighting a bunch of cultists. Great fun!

  • I have never heard of the RPG, but Fantasy Flight game never lead me wrong if you want to help a noob learn
  • @krunsh Hahaha It's famed for being ridiculously hard to keep a character alive in. I'd probably just run through the Paths of the Damned Campaign. So that has a good mix of combat, social and all the grim darkness one would expect from a game taking place in the Warhammer universe. I'm fairly sure the time period is set following the 'Storm Of Chaos'.
@Alanthemoderate I would be more than happy to teach you the game as we play, that's probably the best way to learn.
  • Id love to roleplay! Ive never done it in warhammer, i have some experience from d&d.
I also have a teamspeak server availabe, should we need it.

This sounds intriguing to me, although much like Alanthemoderate I don't own the core rulebook (or other sources). That said if that doesn't hinder me in any way I could well be interested in taking part, if at all possible.

Doesnt hinder you. You only need your charactersheet (which you are allowed to copy) and someone needs to explain some basic stuff but thats about it. Fighting can be done with visual clues and miniatures but also with words only. Its a very scalable game. Unfortunatly its also VERY time consuming and complex. If you do a 'free' campaign it will even be possible to keep track of food, drinks and holidays which yo HAVE to celebrate with offerings or the gods will hate you.
  • Good luck with the campaign. Warhammer 1st and 2nd edition are great RPGs. WFRP brought me into the hobby, being the first game I ever GM'd at the age of ten way, waaay back in the mists of time.
As it happens, I have just started running a campaign myself, set in the year Marienburg attains independence.
  • How are you planning on doing character generation, given that not everyone has the books?
Pure rolls would require the least explaining, roll two pick one would have little explaining and some choice, free choice I guess everything could be listed but not explained in detail?

  • Okay guys! So anyone interested in playing add me on Steam. Profile is 'Atticus Maximus'. We'll have a little chat in a ts and see whats what! For those of you worried about not owning the rule book, I actually have a digital copy alongside my physical one. I can send it to you, and you'll have all the rules and such at your fingertips
@Orlunu In regards to character creation I tend to do it the harshest way, rolling for each characteristic individually with the chance to re roll one. I'm a sadist

Standard rulebook has Human, Halfling, Elf, and Dorf. Dunno about splatbooks.
It also doesn't mention which values we have to roll to get each of those races, guess the GM will tell us.

Can we do a Pocahontas adaptation in which a pestilent skaven and a Saurus become best friends, fleeing Lustria and becoming inseparable swords for hire?

I don't think that is physically possible for any lizardman. They're.. a bit hard-wired. Which is also why i find the prospect of playing one most intriguing. Like, doesn't understand the language, terrible at social interaction but one hell of a beast in fights, fantastic when pursuing a specific goal and most dependable. I wonder if a translator skink (or just playing a skink) would be fun(necessary) as well..
if not, I have an idea otherwise anyway. Just think it'd be a lot of fun.

And then you guys go blaming the skavens for all the wrongs in the world. CLASSIC.
PS: The game is taking place among the empire, thus humans, dwarfs, halflings, and elves only

Well, don't get attached to it, you're rolling for a character.

And chaos-tainted. That's like wearing a KILL-ON-SIGHT sign. While insulting the great plan. along with looking at a Slann. With malicious intent.
